Virtus.pro and Gambit disqualified from EPL S15 due to hostilities in Ukraine

Virtus.pro and Gambit will not be able to take part in the fifteenth season of the ESL Pro League due to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, tournament operator ESL announced on its official website.

However, ESL does not consider it necessary to impose sanctions on individual players. The disqualification applies only to the clubs associated with the Russian government.

Virtus.pro and Gambit were offered to play under a neutral name, without representing their country or organization. During the championship, they will also not be allowed to advertise their sponsors on jerseys or in any other way.

In addition to the ban on VP and Gambit, ESL has suspended the organization of all the tournaments planned in the CIS. According to the company's press release, these events will be held later.

ESL Pro League Season 15 will take place in Germany from March 9 to April 10 with 24 teams taking part. The prize pool of the championship adds up to $823,000.

Earlier, bans against teams based in Russia were imposed by tournament operators BLAST and Elisa. As in the case of ESL, these sanctions were also caused by military actions in Ukraine.
