G2 and Virtus.pro lose their openers at IEM Rio 2024

Group B openers at IEM Rio 2024 have ended, with four teams dropping to the lower bracket of the tournament.

In the first round, Vitality defeated 9z, The MongolZ bested Virtus.pro, Astralis prevailed over Eternal Fire, while HEROIC got the better of G2. All four matches played out in a BO1 format.

The winners advanced to the upper bracket semi-finals, while the losing teams will fight for survival in the losers' bracket tomorrow. Subsequent matchups will be BO3.

Note that IEM Rio 2024 is held from October 7 to 13 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event features a prize pool of $250,000. The winner will also receive an invite to IEM Katowice 2025. The starting fives of all participants of the competition can be found in our article.
