"We had some unfortunate miscommunication". Valve explains situation with invites to second stage of Major

Counter-Strike 2 developers commented on the situation with the adjustment of the rulebook of Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, which occurred halfway through the matches of the final qualifier for the upcoming tournament.

Note that a couple of days ago, Perfect World announced that invites to the Elimination Stage would be issued based on the Valve ranking instead of the RMR results. Accordingly, the tournament operator canceled the deciders for fourth place in the European RMR B bracket. Moreover, the result of a similar decider in RMR A was annulled.

Valve partially took responsibility for the current situation.

We had some unfortunate miscommunication and crossed wires early in the process of answering Perfect World's questions about the Major, and we did not fully appreciate at the time that their rulebook did not use the latest language in the Supplemental Rulebook.

For our part, we certainly take responsibility for not identifying the issue and correcting the ruleset much earlier in the process.

We shifted to seeding teams by the VRS in Copenhagen specifically to address criticism of the Paris Major and events that had preceded it.

So we opted to trade some frustration now with having better matchups at the Major.

Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 will be held from November 30 to December 15 in Shanghai, China. The total prize pool of the event will be $1.25 million. The full team list for the competition can be found in our article.
