joel banned by Akros anti-cheat – his team BC.Game disqualified from three tournaments
On August 4, Swedish esports athlete Joel "joel" Holmlund, representing BC.Game, got banned by Akros anti-cheat during an official match against B8 at the CCT Season 2 Europe Series 7 online tournament.
The 19-year-old player was banned immediately after joining the server. Initially, the organizers allowed the team to continue the match with a stand-in, but after the first map they changed their decision and disqualified the roster from the competition.
Tournament operator GRID, responsible for holding the CCT series events, confirmed the ban and told HLTV that there is no reason to consider the it a false positive. At the same time, the organizers did not specify the exact reason for the ban. The club itself has not yet commented on the situation.
Shortly after this, the BC.Game roster was also suspended from participating in two more competitions – United21 and the European Pro League.
Note that this is not the first time when joel has found himself at the center of a scandal. In August of last year, the Esports Ethics Commission (ESIC) banned the player due to suspicions of match-fixing. In January of 2024, the suspension was lifted due to "lack of compelling evidence". Despite the tarnished reputation, BC.Game took a risk and gave the Swede a chance.
The BC.Game squad was assembled at the end of June this year under the guidance of coach Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács, who has not competed on the Counter-Strike pro scene since 2022. The current starting five of the team can be found via the link.
