Edward announces retirement from competitive play
Ukrainian esports athlete Ioann "Edward" Sukharev has retired as a professional player. He shared this in a comment to HLTV.org after announcing his departure from ESC.
According to Edward, in the future he may return to competition, but as a coach.
Yesterday Sukharev told via his Twitter account that he had decided to depart ESC's main team and move to another position in the club. The 36-year-old player wants to devote more time to his family as he will soon become a father.
Edward is a cult figure in Counter-Strike. He has been competing professionally since 2004 and has achieved significant success in both CS 1.6 and CS:GO. The Ukrainian spent most of his career representing NAVI.
Notably, the esports veteran will remain in the history of the game as the author of one of the most famous highlights, for which he received the nickname Pistol King.
Since the summer of 2023, Sukharev unsuccessfully represented ESC, which assembled a Ukrainian roster. Currently, it is unknown who will take his place on the team.
