ESL warns Major participants about security issues in Brazil

In the run-up to IEM Rio Major 2022, the tournament organizers recommended that all teams attending the Major take extra precautions while in Brazil, Jaxon.gg reports, referring to an excerpt from a presentation that ESL held for the participants.

The security advice mainly concerns the presidential elections in Brazil, which are taking place today, October 30. The Major organizers also warned that it is advisable to leave all valuables in the hotel room and not to wear jerseys while walking around the city.

ESL's advice for IEM Rio Major 2022 participants:

  • Store all valuables in a secure space such as the hotel safe.
  • Be discrete when in public: don't wear team uniforms. credentials or flaunt expensive items.
  • Don't take pictures or videos of your event credentials (badges).
  • Research areas before visiting.
  • Election is ongoing. Don't join public demonstrations.
  • Be smart when confronted with a dangerous situation: avoid escalation.
  • Recommendation: On Sunday, October 30th, the official election day. We recommend to not leave official premises & stay within the hotel & media day locations as a safety precaution.

IEM Rio Major 2022 will be running from October 31 to November 13. The competition will feature 24 teams fighting for a total prize pool of $1.25 million.
