The second Major of this year will be held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro from October 31 to November 13 and will be called IEM Rio Major 2022. Supported by Valve, the prestigious event will be organized by ESL, which published the announcement on its official website.

The tournament with 24 teams taking part will take place in the usual for Majors format with three stages: Challengers Stage, Legends Stage and Champions Stage. The first two stages will be played according to the Swiss system, with the Champions Stage in the Single Elimination bracket format.

The IEM Rio Major 2022 playoffs will be hosted by the Jeunesse Arena, which can accommodate from 15,000 to 18,000 spectators. The prize pool of the tournament adds up to $1 million.

All participants will have to qualify for the upcoming Major through RMR tournaments. The qualifying events, the dates of which are currently unknown, will go under the name IEM Road to Rio.

The fall Major will be the first one to be hosted by the South American region. Seventeen previous Majors were held only in Europe (14 times) and North America (3 times).
