gob b: "I felt that the BIG CS team needed me more than ever"

Recently introduced as the new head coach of BIG, Fatih "gob b" Dayik, spoke to Dexerto. During the conversation with a journalist, the German specialist opened up about his transition to the coaching position, the current state of the team and plans for PGL Major Antwerp 2022.

According to Dayik, he will first of all try to work on the mentality of the players who need an experienced coach.

I felt that the CS team needed me more than ever. I also felt that tabseN needed a deeper connection with the coach than before. The two needed to be more in sync.

[Going back to CS] was just a matter of time, and this felt like a good time because the CS team needed me and the Valorant team could begin a new chapter.

Talking about the problems of his team, gob b mentioned the lack of motivation among the players. At the same time, he noticed that with the addition of the young academy member, Karim "Krimbo" Moussa, the situation started to improve.

I think motivation was the biggest thing. I had been staying in Berlin for the past few months and I had a deep connection with the team. I could see that their work was very good, that they had good ideas about the game. They were just lacking a little bit of leadership and belief in something bigger.

I was involved in the decision to bring Krimbo to the main team. Maybe it would have been better to give him a few more months in the academy circuit, but sometimes you need to jump into cold water. I knew that, while he was probably not yet 100 percent ready, he would give everything in his power. He has a pretty good mind for the game for someone of his age. I knew that, once he got this experience of tier-one and tier-two CS, he could become one of the best. He’s definitely the biggest talent in the German scene. And I’m here to show what he needs to do to have the right state of mind.

BIG's coach expects a tough fight for reaching the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 playoffs. According to him, there can be no easy opponents at the Major.

I still have a good feeling for the kind of game plan that is good against certain teams. It doesn’t matter who we play, it will be very hard to beat anyone. There are no easy opponents in the Legends stage, that’s for sure. Every game will be a bloodbath, but I have to say that I felt the same about our RMR tournament, which I felt was the stronger of the two, with much more interesting matchups.

I’m a very positive guy, you know? I have really high expectations and dreams. So of course I’d like to win a [Major] trophy and maybe even start an era. But I also know what needs to be done and the hard work required.

The Legends Stage, from which BIG will begin their PGL Major Antwerp 2022 run, kicks off on May 14. Together with the Germans, fifteen other squads will compete for eight spots in the playoffs.
