Gambit Esports Looking to Transfer Hobbit

Gambit Esports is hoping to transfer Abay "Hobbit" Khassenov to another team, according to an announcement published Tuesday by the team.

The announcement stated that the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive organization and the player had reached the decision mutually, as Hobbit was also looking to make a change.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Gambit CGO Konstantin Pikiner wrote that the team had been glad to find Hobbit early on, but that it would benefit him to try out a new team.

"We are glad that we managed to notice him two years ago," he wrote, "presented him with an opportunity to grow as a member of an experienced line-up and prove his talent at the largest international competitions."

"At this point it will be beneficial for him to experience playing in another line-up, undergo differing styles of practice and work approaches. We reached a mutual understanding of our plans going forward and are ready to support Abay and help him find a new suitable team."

Pikiner closed by stating that new additions to the lineup were not yet confirmed, and urged fans to wait for official announcements rather than rumors.

Hobbit will continue to play for Gambit Esports through ESL One New York and will be available for transfer starting Oct. 1.

Hobbit first joined the team in October 2016 as a loan from TENGRi. Gambit bought his contract from that team in August 2017, making him an official member of the team. Gambit's win at PGL Major Kraków 2017 highlights his time on the squad.
