Market.CSGO users were hacked due to Steam vulnerability
Not long ago, Market.CSGO, a platform for exchanging CS2 items was hacked, as a result of which the attackers managed to steal a certain number of skins, including expensive CS2 knives. CSGO.com editors found out new details about this incident.
Sources in Market.CSGO told CSGO.com that the scammers used a vulnerability in Steam to gain access to users' skins. Market.CSGO employees passed this information to Steam and immediately made adjustments on their side.
As a result, Steam got rid of the vulnerability, which the attackers used to steal cases, knives, skins and other items from other people's accounts, and paid Market.CSGO a reward of $2,500 for helping to fix the bug, as can be seen in the screenshot below.
The Market.CSGO administration fully compensated all users who suffered from the hack from its own pocket – the total compensation amounted to $652,000.
Moreover, through the joint efforts of Market.CSGO, the affected users and Valve, all Steam accounts of the attackers were promptly blocked (along with the stolen Counter-Strike 2 skins – the ban on trade does not allow them to be transferred to other accounts).
