Valve update tournament regulations in CS2

Counter-Strike 2 developers have made a number of changes to the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) system – they concern the invitations requirements, Wildcard teams, and subregions.

Moreover, Valve redefined the meaning of the main stage of the tournament, defining it as "the stage of a Tournament past which no Rosters enter (i.e., Rosters are only eliminated past this point)".

Priorities for VRS teams have also been defined. For example, Wildcard invites and teams from open qualifiers must enter the event no later than the first stage, where squads invited by rating participate. At the same time, VRS invites must correspond to the ranking: this means that a roster that received a direct invites via VRS cannot start the competition at a later stage than another team with a higher rating. When seeding teams in a certain stage, TOs must use the global VRS rating, if available.

Wildcard invites have also been changed: for every eight squads invited via VRS, two teams can be invited via Wildcard. Any invitees must meet the following criteria:

a) It includes at least 3 players who individually were members of a top 8 Roster on an Invite VRS List at any time during the preceding 6 months.

b) It has placed first or second place in any Tournament, of equal or lesser tier than the one issuing the invite, during the preceding 6 months.

If tournament organizers use Wildcard invites or open qualifiers, these teams must enter the event no later than the first stage with VRS invites. If the competition features rosters with VRS invites, at least two squads have to be invited from the same VRS list.

As for the rankings for the Americas and Asia, they are now divided into subregions: North and South America on one side, and Oceania, East Asia, and West Asia on the other. Invites must be distributed evenly between subregions, while teams from these sub-regions must have a core roster with citizenship from the corresponding subregion.
