Valve changes Major seeding process and stage names

Valve has made changes to Major Supplemental Rulebook ahead of the imminent start of the qualifiers for PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024. The changes affected the seeding process and the stage names.

The developers have overhauled the seeding format. If previously the first seed faced the sixteenth, now the team seeded 1st will compete in the first round with the roster seeded ninth. However, from the second round onwards the seeding process will remain unchanged.

The updated seeding format looks as follows:

  • 1 – 9.
  • 2 – 10.
  • 3 – 11.
  • 4 – 12.
  • 5 – 13.
  • 6 – 14.
  • 7 – 15.
  • 8 – 16.

Moreover, the developers decided to scrap the familiar names of the Challengers, Legends and Champions stages. From now on, the Major stages will be called Opening, Elimination and Playoffs, respectively.

In addition, Valve has decided that the teams that will directly qualify for the Elimination stage will be determined based on their position in the ranking, and not the results of RMRs

PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 will take place from March 17 to 31 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The tournament will feature a total prize pool of $1.25 million.
