ESIC temporarily suspends joel for betting violations

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has announced the temporary suspension of Swedish esports athlete Joel "joel" Holmlund for betting against his team. The final decision on banning the player will be made on October 6.

ESIC reportedly found evidence confirming numerous violations of the Commission's anti-corruption code. The subject of the proceedings was the online tournament BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic 2023, during which Holmlund, competing for GODSENT, bet against himself.

It was discovered that from March 29 to May 1, 2023, the Swede made 17 bets on various matches. In total, the player violated five subparagraphs of the anti-corruption code.

As a result, joel will be suspended from all tournaments run by ESIC partners and other tournament operators who choose to heed the Commission's verdict. Until the beginning of October, the Swede will have the opportunity to provide evidence of his innocence, after which the final verdict will be rendered.
