American journalist reveals details of YEKINDAR's transfer to Liquid

Editor-in-chief of Dust2.us Ryan Friend revealed the details of Mareks "YEKINDAR" Galinskis joining Liquid in the Double Doors podcast. In particular, he learned that due to the fact that the Latvian had a contract with Virtus.pro, signing the player was the most difficult deal in the history of the North American organization.

I was trying to figure out exactly what the deal was with the transfer. I mean obviously it's very confusing. All the things that I've heard out of the Liquid camp has been this was one of the most difficult deals that they've ever done for any player. The idea was to make this a permanent transfer since Cologne, and it's literally taking them this long to fully complete the deal, which to me screams more than just "YEKINDAR wants a certain number and they are not budging." Obviously they needed to figure out the contract situation. And I think that's just been a very interesting way to go beyond it. I think one statement that I did get out of Liquid, though, not officially, as always, but it was: "We will a 100% under no circumstances be paying any money or be involved to any agency or a holding company that is trying to skirt sanctions." They were not trynna pull like Cloud9.

YEKINDAR joined Liquid after four months of playing for the team as a stand-in. Shortly before the official announcement, the esports athlete tweeted that he had agreed with Virtus.pro on buying out his contract.
