YEKINDAR buys out his contract from Virtus.pro

Latvian esports athlete Mareks "YEKINDAR" Galinskis has announced on Twitter that he is formally no longer part of Virtus.pro, who moved him to the bench in May of this year. The player bought out his own contract from the Russian organization.

I bought myself out from VP a while back and It took a bit longer due to change of the ownership. As you can imagine it is all really complex and so the next steps have taken a few months to complete. I am thankful for all my teammates for the time i have been on the team and i am looking forward to announcing my future very soon. Excited about this new chapter in my life.

Neither YEKINDAR nor Virtus.pro revealed the amount the player paid. At the same time, at the end of August, the Latvian stated in an interview that his buyout was a little less than a million dollars.

YEKINDAR played for Virtus.pro since mid-2020. With him on board, the CIS squad won such tournaments as Flashpoint 2, cs_summit 7 and the RMR event for the CIS region IEM New York 2020. The esports athlete's individual performance was noted by HLTV.org, which placed him eight on the Top 20 players of 2021 ranking.

Shortly after being put on Virtus.pro's bench, Galinskis started playing for Liquid as a stand-in. Together with the new team, he had a successful run at IEM Cologne 2022 (5-6th place), BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2022 (1-3rd place) and ESL Pro League Season 16 (2nd place).

Back in early August, Liquid's General Manager, Steve Perino, tweeted that the club was working with Galinskis to share news of a long-term deal. After the announcement, however, no official information has come about the player's prospects in Liquid.

Recently, Liquid with YEKINDAR qualified for IEM Rio Major 2022. The prestigious competition will take place in Brazil from October 31 to November 13.
