ESL to review FaZe's acquisition by GameSquare for conflicts of interest

Tournament operator ESL intends to review the acquisition of North American organization FaZe by GameSquare holding, Complexity's owner, for conflict of interest. The company reported this to HLTV.org.

We are aware of the acquisition of FaZe Clan by GameSquare and are examining the potential implications this may have on (their participation in) our tournaments and our business relations. If the outcomes of this review lead to any updates, then we will announce those in due course.

FaZe and Complexity are ESL partners, which grants them permanent slots in ESL Pro League and other leading events from the tournament operator. In addition, both clubs are partnered with BLAST, but the Danish company has not made an official comment yet.

HLTV.org also discovered that starting in 2025, conflicts of interest will prevent teams with the same owner from participating in all tournaments. Notably, Valve had previously implemented a similar restriction only for Majors.

Official announcement about FaZe's acquisition by GameSquare holding was made last week. The deal is expected to be closed by the end of the year.
