G2 joins Vitality and ENCE in Intel Grand Slam Season 5 race

With the victory at IEM Cologne 2023, G2 entered the race for the prestigious Intel Grand Slam Season 5 award. Besides the Samurai, Vitality and ENCE are also competing for $1 million in gold bars that are awarded to the winner.

According to the rules of the award, in order to win, the team needs to secure victories at three ESL Pro Tour Masters series events, as well as win one big tournament in the elite Championship category, namely IEM Katowice, IEM Cologne or an ESL Major. From the moment of the first success at one of these events, the roster is given ten attempts to obtain all four titles.

At the moment, G2, Vitality and ENCE each have one trophy in the Intel Grand Slam S5 standings. That leaves the Samurai with nine chances to secure three missing titles, while the reigning Major champion has seven attempts and Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer's squad has eight.

The results and schedule of upcoming Intel Grand Slam Season 5 tournaments are:

IEM Rio 2023 –  Vitality
IEM Dallas 2023 –  ENCE
IEM Cologne 2023 –  G2
ESL Pro League Season 18 – August 30-October 1
IEM Sydney 2023 – October 16-22

Earlier the winners of the Intel Grand Slam award, which has existed since 2018, were Astralis, Liquid, NAVI and FaZe. Season 5 was announced this spring, when ESL revealed that the race will kick off in CS:GO and continue after the transition to CS2.
