Valve announces Counter-Strike 2

Valve has unveiled official information on the Counter-Strike 2 release and announced that it will take place this summer. The developers have posted on their YouTube channel a series of videos, in which they spoke about the changes in CS:GO after porting to the Source 2 engine.

First of all, Valve announced that they are moving beyond the tick rate system. The new architecture will allow servers to calculate the exact instant that motion starts, a shot is fired, or a nade is thrown.

Secondly, the developers unveiled a new visual design of the maps. In particular, they managed to make them significantly brighter, cleaner from the unnecessary debris and better graphically, leaving a rich heritage intact.

Thirdly, the smokes deployment system will be reworked. Now they are dynamic volumetric objects that interact with the environment and react to lighting, gunfire and explosions.

The developers have announced that Counter Strike 2 Limited Test starts today, March 22, with players selected based on a number of factors, including recent playtime on Valve official servers, trust factor, and Steam account standing. Valve will share more information on the game before the summer 2023.
