Former assistant coach of Evil Geniuses opens up on Stewie2K-maLeK conflict

French coach Paolo "EVY" Berbudeau, who previously worked as an assistant to Damien "maLeK" Marcel in Evil Geniuses, spoke about the conflict that took place between the head coach and IGL Jake "Stewie2K" Yip. The specialist shared this information in an interview with 1pv.fr.

According to Berbudeau, initially maLeK was against Stewie2K's invitation for the in-game leader role. The organization insisted on this and argued its decision by saying that Yip is a "superstar, the best North American player and the Major winner".

From the first days of his stay in the team, Stewie2K did not devote proper time to analyzing matches and took everything for granted, EVY noted. In some official matches, he also refused to take breaks, which were insisted on by both maLeK and EVY himself, who replaced the head coach at ESL Pro League Season 15.

Describing the relationship between the IGL and the head coach, Berbudeau said that Yip stopped greeting him just a few days after they met and rarely listened to him during team meetings. The roster was thus split amid this conflict: Timothy "autimatic" Ta sided with Stewie2K, William "RUSH" Wierzba tried to reconcile everyone, while Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte and Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov remained neutral.

EVY added that in the end, the organization had a choice between kicking out the coach or the IGL. The club made a choice in favor of the in-game leader, and a month later announced the expansion of its CS:GO division by signing the Party Astronauts and Carpe Diem lineups.

Stewie2K responded to EVY's statements on his Twitter. The American wrote that every story has two sides and promised to share the details on his Twitch channel tomorrow, June 17th.
