PGL Major Antwerp 2022 becomes the largest indoor arena tournament in esports history
Tournament operator PGL on its official website has reported that during the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 grand final, the Antwerps Sportpaleis arena sat more than 20,000 spectators, which is a record in the history of indoor esports events.
During the Major, which was attended by at least 40,000 people, the organizers measured the noise of the crowd. At peak, the volume reached a staggering 106 decibels, which is close to the noisiest sports stadiums in the world, with this number getting up to 130-140 decibels.
SKY Proleague Grand Final 2005, which was held outdoors, remains the absolute record holder in the history of esports. The grand final of the StarCraft tournament was watched live by 120,000 spectators.
PGL Major Antwerp 2022 was held from May 9 to 22 in the Belgian city of Antwerp. The European roster FaZe lifted the Major's trophy after coming out on top of NAVI 2-0 in the grand final.
