PGL to host first Major of 2022

Tournament operator PGL has announced the holding of the first Major in 2022, which will be called PGL Major Antwerp 2022. The prestigious event with a total prize pool of $1 million will be held from May 9 to 22 in the Belgian city of Antwerp.

Antwerp's Sport Palace arena, which accommodates 18,000 people, has been chosen to be the venue for the Major, where the playoffs will take place in front of a live audience.

According to PGL’s CEO Silviu Stroie, Belgium’s favorable geographic location in the center of Europe was a decisive factor when choosing a place for holding the Major. He went on to say that this will make travelling to the destination convenient for the maximum number of fans.

PGL will also hold RMR tournaments for all the regions, the results of which will determine the teams to show up at the Major. The details on the format of the qualifiers will be unveiled soon.

For PGL, this will be the third time organizing a Major event. Previously, the company hosted the world championships in 2017 in Krakow and in 2021 in Stockholm.
