$150,000 Steam inventory stolen from a well-known trader
A popular trader and collector known as Temp1e has tweeted that all in-game skins he had have been stolen from his Steam account. According to him, the total value of the lost items, which include rare stickers, equals or exceeds $150,000.
On November 10, Temp1e failed to log into Steam because his password and phone number associated with Steam Guard were changed. As it turned out later, he became a victim of SIM swapping, which is a type of fraud that implies abusing the vulnerabilities of a mobile operator in the procedure of reissuing a SIM card.
After several requests to Steam Support, access to the account was returned, but at that point the inventory was empty. Among the stolen items were rare Cloud9, iBUYPOWER, LGB and VOX stickers from the 2014-2015 Majors, gold autographs of PGL Major Krakow 2017 participants, capsules and souvenir packages, and many other valuable items.
In February of this year, the Czech police detained a citizen for stealing a knife skin in CS:GO, which was estimated at $1,400. At this point, it is unknown what kind of punishment the fraudster was given, but the police press service threatened him with a custodial sentence of up to 8 years.
