PGL may disqualify participants that get positive COVID-19 tests

The PGL Major Stockholm 2021 organizers have informed that all participants with a positive coronavirus test will be disqualified. This was reported by Dexerto, who had a copy of the letter sent by PGL.

The championship rules state that players, coaches and staff who show symptoms of coronavirus confirmed by a positive test will not be able to continue competing at the tournament and may be disqualified. A penalty or prohibition of the participation can also be imposed if the organizers consider that a representative of any team endangers other people and jeopardizes the tournament by his actions.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, all participants are advised to wear masks when around other people and comply with Swedish coronavirus epidemiological guidelines.

According to the source, some teams expressed dissatisfaction with the security protocols presented by PGL. In their opinion, a player with a positive test should be isolated in his hotel room, where he will continue to play at least until the playoff stage, which will be held at the stadium in front of a live audience.

At the moment, PGL representatives are yet to comment on the situation. It also remains unknown whether the rules mentioned above apply throughout the tournament, or only for the decisive stage.

PGL Major Stockholm 2021 will be held from October 26 to November 7. The playoffs of the championship with $2 million of prize money will take place at the Avicii Arena, which accommodates 15,000 people, in front of fans.
