North has struggled to find form in recent months. After a win at DreamHack Montreal in September, the team failed to make it out of the group stage at both EPICENTER and ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals. At the recent ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018, the team went 0-3 in the Swiss rounds with losses to Vega Squadron, Astralis and BIG.
“I am honored to be given the opportunity to take a step up. This is the reason I joined North Academy and what I have been working so hard for in the last ten months. I am ready to give it my all and help North kick ass again”, said Daniel “mertz” Mertz about the chance.
Christian Sørensen, CEO of North, said that Mertz has earned his call-up through hard work: “Daniel has been a model professional since joining us in March, and he has thoroughly impressed both me, the coaching staff and the team with his play in 2017.”
“Part of North’s philosophy is to find players with potential and mold them so they can become elite competitors. Daniel embodies that more than anyone else, and we cannot wait to see him in action on the biggest stage”.
mertz’s first event with the team will be the IEM Katowice Closed Qualifier in the coming weekend, and his LAN-debut will be at cs_summit 2 in early February.
