Valve updates rules regarding region changes in VRS for CS2 Majors
Counter-Strike 2 developers modified the supplementary regulations for Majors after several clubs switched from the European VRS region to the Asian one to boost their chances of qualifying for the upcoming event in Singapore. The new rule states:
A roster is only eligible for a Regional Assignment if they did not appear in any other region's VRS list in the preceding three calendar months.
Consequently, squads will no longer be able to switch regions immediately before invites are issued to secure a spot at the Major, as any region change will only take effect after a three-month waiting period. This new rule applies exclusively to Majors (and not other CS2 tournaments), starting with the upcoming PGL Singapore Major 2026.
Valve confirmed that the new rule comes into effect three months prior to the issuance of invites to the Major, rather than three months before the event itself begins. The developers also stated that teams that opted to switch regions ahead of the Singapore competition would be ineligible to compete unless they "contact us and find a solution".
Notably, several organizations recently announced their move to the Asian VRS. These include BC.Game, which signed Tyson "asap" Paterson to replace Denis "electroNic" Sharipov, and Sashi, which added two Australian players to its roster.
