k0nfig retires as Counter-Strike pro player
28-year-old Danish esports athlete Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke has officially announced the ending of his career of professional Counter-Strike player, which kicked off in 2015.
I tried my best, I played well individually, I had fans that trusted me, and I had all of the experiences that a 28-year-old should have. It's hard to say retirement, it has taken me a year to get to this point, but I'm ready to say it.
It's emotional to say it out loud and think about all of the good things it has come with, and of course it has also come with a lot of bad things, but mainly it has been an absolute journey through every single emotion, every single feeling at tournaments and during practices, but it feels right. That's why I'm making the decision to retire from competitive play.
K0nfig competed for NIP from January 2023 to February 2024, after which the organization moved him to the bench, where he remained until March of this year. Before joining NIP, the Dane played for Astralis, Complexity, OpTic, and other clubs. He has earned $534,000 in prizes throughout his career.
