Valve updates VRS rules, adding new subregion in Europe
Valve has made new adjustments to the official rules for Counter-Strike 2 tournaments. One of the new changes is the addition of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) subregion in Europe. Part of the new subregion is Israel, which was previously part of Asia, as well as Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Cyprus, and many other countries.
This change formally makes Liquid a European team for most of their players. The changes also affected JiJieHao, which will now also be considered a European team. JiJieHao was ranked sixth in Asia, but will now be ranked 29th in Europe.
Another important adjustment is how players from African countries that are not part of MENA are taken into account. Instead of automatically assigning them to Asia, such esports athletes will now be assigned to the region with the lowest priority in the team. As a result, for example, Wildcard will now be assigned to the Americas region instead of Europe, since Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek will be counted as a player from the lowest priority region on the roster, which is Americas.
