FMPONE on Cache: "Valve reached out to buy it on day one of release"

Cache will return to the map pool in Counter-Strike – the author of the map's new version for CS2, Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling, confirmed this information via his X social media account. Valve themselves have not made any official statements on this matter yet.

Out of respect for the development team I withheld comment, but they reached out to buy it on day one of release. It was a great honor and I don't want anyone to think we hesitated for one moment.

Thus, after the release of today's update in CS2, data-miners discovered that the developers added de_cache to the competitive map pool along with other maps in the game files. Maxim "Gabe Follower" Poletaev suggested that Valve will completely rework Cache before officially releasing it in Counter-Strike 2. Accordingly, we should not expect the release of the map in the near future.

Note that in March of this year, FMPONE published an updated version of Cache for Counter-Strike 2 in the Steam Workshop. The original version of de_cache appeared in Counter-Strike back in 2012. In 2017, the map was added to the competitive map pool, while two years later, the developers dropped it in favor of Vertigo. In 2020, FMPONE released an updated version of Cache, which was added to the official CS:GO servers, but not to the Active Duty pool.
