GamerLegion point out error in Valve ranking update

Esports organization GamerLegion has issued a statement claiming that it has contacted Valve to clarify a calculation discrepancy in Valve's February ranking update.

The error resulted in fact that teams that were eliminated early receiving rating points from prize money faster than others, while squads that are still competing have not yet received points because they had not yet been awarded prize money at the time of the update.

For example, GamerLegion was ranked 13th on February 3, the deadline for issuing invites to BLAST Open Lisbon, PGL Bucharest, YaLLa Compass Qatar, IEM Melbourne, and IEM Dallas.

Accordingly, the roster did not get into the top 12 of the ranking – the threshold for invites to BLAST Open Lisbon and PGL Bucharest (they were missing only 0.4 points), provided that none of the invitees decline the invite.

After getting relegated from IEM Katowice 2025 on February 4 and receiving $38,000 in prizes, as well as changes in points after a win against Astralis and losses to Team Spirit and The MongolZ, GamerLegion should rise to No. 11 in Valve ranking (according to HLTV calculations). That is, the team should have 43 points more than FURIA, which occupies 12th place, since their winnings of $10,000 were already taken into account in the ranking as of February 3.

We have identified what appears to be a calculation discrepancy in the February Valve Ranking update, specifically involving prize pool calculations and minimum prize pool guaranteed for teams still in competition, intended to balance out prize pools for teams that have already been eliminated. This issue has significantly impacted our standing and eligibility for recent invites, as we missed the Top 12 placement in the global VRS that we believe we rightfully deserved.

As a team committed to performance excellence and sporting fairness, we have reached out to Valve and believe it is crucial to clarify this situation for the benefit of the entire competitive community. Moreover, this could similarly affect other teams in the future, making it all the more important for Valve to address it promptly.

Our intention is not to undermine any other team; rather, we seek transparency and consistency in order to preserve the spirit of fair competition. We fully respect all verdicts and trust that Valve will address this matter appropriately.

We appreciate the continued support from our fans and peers and remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism within the esports landscape.

The Counter-Strike 2 developers have not yet given any comments on this matter.
