Astralis suspends women's CS2 team

One more big esports organization has put its women's Counter-Strike 2 roster on pause – this time, it was Astralis. Accordingly, all members of the squad became free agents.

The club's sports director Kasper Straube commented on this announcement as follows:

I am saddened that today we must say goodbye to our five talented and ambitious female players. We have seen a team and five players who have continuously evolved, and we have been proud and happy to support them at Astralis. Unfortunately, we must acknowledge that the changes in the industry surrounding the women’s league no longer allow us to manage a women’s team in the way we believe it should be run at this time.

It has been a great pleasure to follow the work of these players, and I hope that, at some point in the future, we may explore the possibility of developing a women’s project again with the right ambitions and opportunities. Nevertheless, we want to express our immense gratitude to the entire team and everyone who has supported the team over the past years in shaping and creating the Astralis W project.

Astralis W was founded in September 2022. Over the course of its existence, the team has earned $8,200 in prize money. At the time of disbandment, it occupied 220th place in HLTV world ranking.

Note that over the past few days, three esports organizations have announced the suspension of their female Counter-Strike 2 rosters. The list includes TSM, Team Spirit and ENCE.

Astralis W former roster looks as follows:

 Marie "marie" Sørensen
 Isabella "Ismo" Ferslev
 Linnea "Nea" Claesson
 Thea "pullox" Evensen
 Katharina "KiTKaT" Bauenmand

 Søren "zibron" Geertsen (coach)
