IEM Cologne 2024 will not feature BO1 matches

Tournament operator ESL has made one adjustment to the system for holding one of the biggest Counter-Strike 2 tournaments of 2024, namely IEM Cologne 2024, which kicks off in a couple of weeks.

Based on the feedback from players and casters, the organizers decided to remove all matches in a BO1 format from the event – participants will compete against each other in best-of-three series. This was announced on X social media account.

IEM Cologne 2024 is divided into three parts: Play-In (Double Elimination), Group Stage (GSL) and Playoffs (Single Elimination). The tournament final will play out in a BO5 format, while all the other matches will be BO3.

IEM Cologne 2024 will take place from August 7 to 18 in Cologne, Germany, with the participation of 24 squads. The event will feature a total prize pool of $1 million. The full team list for the competition can be found in our previous article.
