Virtus.pro CS:GO Lineup to Cease Competition

Virtus.pro's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team will not compete at any more events for the foreseeable future, the organization announced Thursday.

The organization cited disappointing recent performances as the reason for its decision. Details about what the CS:GO team will do in the interim remain scarce, as does insight into its future. Virtus.pro plans to revisit the situation and provide more information about the team's next moves by the end of the year.

Fans on Twitter responded with a deluge of mourning gifs. Fellow CS:GO pro Jacky "Jake" "Stewie2K" Yip retweeted the announcement, writing, "Sad day for the CS scene to see the legendary plow go."

"Papito," he continued, "You are not my friend. You’re my brother, my friend!"

Virtus.pro's general manager Roman Dvoryankin shared a general plan for the team's future in a statement alongside the announcement.

“After London Major we were quite optimistic about the potential of the current lineup," he wrote. "Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. The long term strategy for us is to build a competitive team around young players and we will follow it while making decisions.

Virtus.pro's recent results include relegation at the FACEIT London Major and failures both to compete on the EPICENTER 2018 main stage and to qualify for the next ESL Pro League season. The team has, in its own view, struggled to rebuild following the departures of Paweł "byali" Bieliński, Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski, and Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas.
