HLTV: Valve to cancel RMRs and expand Majors to 32 teams in 2025

According to unofficial data, the number of participants in Counter-Strike 2 Majors will be expanded from 24 to 32 teams. The changes will come into effect next year. HLTV.org reported this, citing its own sources.

According to media reports, the developers will completely abandon RMRs, while invites to Majors will likely be issued based on the official Valve ranking.

The increase in the number of participants will lead to the fact that the Majors will have an additional stage, which will be held in a Swiss format. Accordingly, this will affect the duration of the tournaments – it will increase by about four days.

The updated format is expected to be used at BLAST Austin Major 2025, which will take place in Austin, Texas, in June of next year. More detailed information about the upcoming BLAST Major can be found in our article.
