smooya becomes a free agent

The British esports athlete Owen "smooya" Butterfield announced on his Twitter account that he left Movistar Riders and currently is a free agent. The player noted that he is willing to pursue his career in CS:GO or Valorant and is open to offers from Europe or North America.

Butterfield has represented Movistar Riders since February this year. During this time, the team won only a couple of regional tournaments, but failed to qualify for any tier-1 championship. In early August, the club announced the exclusion of smooya from the starting five and the return to an all-Spanish roster.

After being benched, the British AWPer played as a standin for fnatic in the open European qualifiers for IEM Winter 2021. He helped the team beat GamerLegion, K23 and Galaxy Racer, which secured fnatic a slot in the closed qualifier.

It is currently unknown whether Butterfield will continue to temporarily play for fnatic in the upcoming matches, which will take place on October 18-19 in the closed qualifier for IEM Winter 2021.
