fnx set to leave Imperial; return to player career in 2023

Brazilian Lincoln "fnx" Lau, who was Imperial's coach in the second half of 2022, will continue his career in another organization, the esports athlete announced on Twitter.

Lau noted that his plans do not include continuing to work as a coach. He was in charge of Imperial at three tournaments: ESL Challenger Melbourne 2022 (2nd place), Flow FiReLEAGUE 2022 Global Finals (3-4th place) and IEM Rio Major 2022 (21-24th place).

fnx, who in 2016 became a two-time Major champion with Luminosity/SK, had played for Imperial since the project's inception at the beginning of this year. The Brazilians had a poor first half of the year, after which the 32-year-old was replaced by Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes.

The information about fnx's departure from Imperial comes amid rumors about upcoming changes in the Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo-led roster. Brazilian journalists learned that the club is close to signing MIBR's Jhonatan "JOTA" Willian, who will take the place of Fernando "fer" Alvarenga. That said, it is still unclear who will be the team's skipper next season.
