NIP and FaZe qualify for IEM Rio Major 2022; Aurora and ECSTATIC eliminated from RMR event

Following the results of the third round at IEM Road to Rio 2022 Europe RMR A, the first teams to qualify for the upcoming Major have been determined, as well as those who finish their run at the qualifying tournament. The spots at IEM Rio 2022 were secured by NIP, who in the qualification match defeated Cloud9 (16:9 on Mirage, 11:16 on Inferno and 16:14 on Vertigo), and FaZe, who came out on top of Sprout (19:17 on Ancient, 16:19 on Nuke and 16:5 on Mirage).

Being the winners of IEM Road to Rio 2022 Europe RMR A, NIP and FaZe will start the Major in Brazil not from the Challengers Stage but from the Legends Stage that follows it.

In the elimination meetings, forZe took over ECSTATIC (16:7 on Overpass and 16:7 on Dust2), while Eternal Fire stayed afloat thanks to being victorious against Aurora (16:9 on Vertigo, 15:19 on Mirage and 16:8 on Nuke). The wins saw these squads progress to the 1-2 pool.

Besides the promotion and elimination matches, the third round also saw encounters between the teams going 1-1, in which 1WIN, Team Spirit, B8 and Bad News Eagles bested G2, GamerLegion, fnatic and Astralis, respectively. It is enough for the winners to secure one more victory to qualify for IEM Rio 2022, while the losing teams will fight for survival in the fourth round.

The fourth round at IEM Road to Rio 2022 Europe RMR A will take place tomorrow, October 7. The squads to secure their spots at the Major will be determined in the Cloud9 – 1 WIN, Sprout – B8 and Team Spirit – Bad News Eagles matchups, while those to be eliminated will be known following the results of the Astralis – forZe, fnatic – Eternal Fire and GamerLegion – G2 meetings.
