NiKo and maLeK on the M4A1-S upgrade and the ability to drop grenades

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač, the player of G2, and the team's coach Damien "maLeK" Marcel, during a press conference before the start of the IEM Fall 2021 Europe playoffs, shared their views on the changes that have happened in CS:GO after the recent major update. In particular, the G2 members commented on the increased body damage of the M4A1-S and the ability to drop grenades.

NiKo appreciated the revision of the characteristics of the main CTs' weapon, and also noted that he was not a fan of adding a grenade drop feature.

I have not used the M4A1-S regularly before. Now everything has changed and this rifle is superior to the M4A4. It has the identical damage, costs less, and a silencer may help in some moments. Yes, the rate of fire still leaves much to be desired, but we see that most of the pros go for it anyway.

When it comes to the ability of dropping grenades, it is difficult to evaluate how drastically it will change the game, since the teams have not had enough time to prepare new strats. Let's see how things go, but I'm definitely not a fan of this innovation.

In turn, maLeK believes that as teams learn how to use droppable grenades, this mechanic will change CS:GO for the worse.

Now you can do wild things with grenades. If everything remains the way it currently is, without any nerf of the ability to share them with each other, then the game will be transformed beyond recognition. I am a bit afraid of the direction in which things may go.

A little study of the new possibilities was enough for us to discover several cases of using grenades that would completely break CS:GO. Not sure if this is the game I want to see. Hopefully Valve will make some adjustments. <...> I will not mention the tactics with grenades we have come up with, as I don’t want to see them being used against my team.

Let us remind you that the mentioned above innovations were presented on September 22 along with the release of the Operation Riptide. In addition to the updated weapon characteristics and the addition of the posibility to drop grenades, an important change for the competitive CS:GO scene was a new wall that blocks vision from the T-spawn on Dust2 into mid.
