Thorin: s1mple is comparable to Messi and Ronaldo at what he does

Esports analyst Duncan "Thorin" Shields, in a video on his YouTube channel, noted that NAVI’s AWPer Alexandr "s1mple" Kostyliev is so much stronger than any player in CS history that further comparison of the Ukrainian with anyone from the professional Valve’s shooter scene is pointless. According to Shields, Kostyliev's prowess and consistency puts him on par with the world's greatest athletes.

I've never thought that there will ever be a player better than NEO, but then s1mple showed up. When back in 2016 I started talking about how s1mple could be the greatest player to ever play CS:GO, there was a reason why. Just watching him play against the best teams in the world was enough to understand that when this guy grows up and becomes stronger, nobody would be able to square off with him. He is so strong and consistent at the same time over a long period of time that even the second place in the rating is considered a bad result for him.

Now, he is not just the best player in history of all CS versions. It's not about comparing him to f0rest, olofmeister, GeT_RiGhT, coldzera, device or ZywOo. He should be compared with the best representatives from other esports disciplines: Flash from StarCraft, Faker from League of Legends, rapha and cYpheR from Quake. But this is not enough either. s1mple is actually comparable to Messi, Ronaldo, Jordan, Gretzky, Mayweather and other outstanding athletes at what he does. All these are people who have reached incredible heights in their fields.

It should be reminded that during his career, 23-year-old s1mple won many tournaments, the most prestigious of which are ESL One Cologne 2018, IEM Katowice 2020 and IEM Cologne 2021. For the past three years, he has also been in the top-2 best players of the professional scene: 1st place in 2018 and 2nd place in 2019 and 2020.
