Fer to Miss BLAST Pro Series Lisbon Due to Surgery

Fernando "fer" Alvarenga will miss competition at BLAST Pro Series Lisbon in order to receive surgery on his right ear.

Fer announced he would be undergoing the surgery, scheduled for Dec. 14, in an interview aired during the ECS Season 6 finals Saturday. His coach on MIBR, Ricardo "dead" Sinigaglia, later confirmed to ESPN Esports Brazil that this would cause fer to miss out on competing at BLAST Pro Series Lisbon, the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive premier set to begin that day.

Fer's hearing troubles began as a result of an infection at a young age. He has played the majority of his Counter-Strike career virtually deaf in his right ear, and credits that with the development of his aggressive play style.

This ear surgery will be fer's second time on the cutting table. The Brazilian player previously underwent surgery in 2016 to combat a breathing problem, when he was temporarily replaced by Gustavo "SHOOWTiME" Gonçalves.

Fer will play his last event of the year at the ESL Pro League Season 8 finals beginning Dec. 7 in Odense, Denmark.
