ESL One New York announced

The tournament organizer has announced a return to the Big Apple in September.

ESL have announced the return of their flagship esports tournament to Brooklyn. ESL One New York is set to return for 2018, with the finals once again headed to the Barclays Centre on September 29th-30th.

Much like ESL One Belo Horizonte, this event will diverge from the standardized formats ESL have been seeking to stick to for their events. With eight teams taking part, five will be invited and three will secure berths via qualifiers. The breakdown of the qualifiers are yet to be announced.

The Group Stage is set to begin on Wednesday, September 26th and complete on the Friday, September 28th, before moving to the Arena on Saturday. There will be two groups of four teams, with the groups being played in a best-of-three double elimination format. The playoffs themselves will start at the semifinals stage and be best-of-three single elimination, before leading up to a best-of-five grand final.

The event itself lies just after the FACEIT Major in London, which is scheduled to finish on September 23rd. With ESL One New York starting three days after the Major, this may have an effect on which teams wish to attend the tournament.

There will be $250,000 on offer in the prize pool, and a win in the event will count towards a team claiming the $1,000,000 Intel Grand Slam.

Tickets are set to go on sale this Friday, April 20th, at 11am EDT.
