Pets added to CS2

Counter-Strike 2 players can now acquire a pet chicken; this feature arrived with today's update, though the patch notes make no mention of it.

To get a chicken, you must claim an egg from the weekly drop (this consumes both available slots). The unhatched pet appears in the main menu next to your character model; after a few days, it matures into a chick and then a young chicken (at which point it can be taken into matches). The final stage is an adult chicken capable of performing various tricks and actions.

The chicken requires feeding to grow (food is also available in the weekly drop); otherwise, it will disappear from your profile. Even with proper care, the pet may eventually leave on its own ("You raised it so well that it no longer needs you", reads the in-game notification).

CS2 features three chicken breeds and 34 color variations, all obtained randomly. Pets are used to fill collectible photo albums containing secret pages that unlock when the chicken takes damage from a Zeus x27, fire, or C4.
