dastan departs Virtus.pro

Former Virtus.pro Counter-Strike 2 coach Dastan "dastan" Akbayev departed the organization today and became a free agent. The club announced this via the official website and social media accounts.

Note that the Kazakhstani esports athlete coached Virtus.pro from December 2019 to May 2024, after which the club benched him with the prospect of further cooperation. According to Virtus.pro CEO Nikolai Petrossian, ultimately there was no suitable position for Akbaev in the club.

Dastan's contribution to Virtus.pro's recent successes in CS is invaluable. He has stood behind the players during the toughest challenges and the most significant victories. However, any collaboration eventually runs its course. We tried to find a suitable position for Dastan within the club's structure, but couldn't come to a mutually beneficial arrangement that would allow us to work effectively together. Therefore, the best decision was to end our professional relationship.

Dastan himself added that he is "preparing for the new season and is open to cooperation". Notably, under Dastan's guidance, Virtus.pro won IEM Rio Major 2022, as well as a number of other big tournaments, including Flashpoint Season 2, cs_summit 7 and ESL Challenger Rotterdam 2022.
