Turkish player banned by ESIC over betting offences

Turkish esports athlete Burak "Monkeylay" Can Turunç has received a two-year ban from the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC). He was charged with several offences for betting against his team during ESL Turkey Championship Season 12.

Reportedly, Monkeylay bet against his team NOCHANCE in the playoffs of the aforementioned tournament. In addition, the Turkish player deliberately influenced the outcome of matches.

According to the Commission, Monkeylay ignored the notice of charge, and declined a plea bargain deal offer.

Notably, in September, the Swedish esports athlete Joel "joel" Holmlund was suspended for betting against his team. ESIC then promised to make a final verdict on October 6, but never announced a final decision.
